Victorian Wedding

If you love old fashioned themes, heavy jewelries, and ruffled wedding gowns, Victorian wedding theme is just made for you. Even though, it is an outdated theme, arranging a Victorian wedding would not be difficult for you, because Victorian wedding theme has been a great topic of interest for fashion designers.

A Victorian wedding refers to Victorian period in England when Queen Victoria ruled (1837-1901). It was during her reign that many of the customs we now think of as “Victorian” were established. The phrase Victorian, or Vintage, brings to mind scrollwork, old lace, roses, and soft colors. It makes us think of softness, beauty, lace, ribbons, and flowers. Here are some ideas you may consider for a Victorian themed wedding:-

• Setting the scene of the Victorian times starts with the wedding venue. Victorian style mansions and estates exist around the country; you may rent one of these venues for the wedding ceremony or reception or for both.

• For your gown, shop for a dress that features a high neckline, puffed sleeves, and a form-fitting bodice with a tight waistline. A Victorian wedding is simply not complete without a traditional Victorian-style wedding gown. Dresses in this era can be white, ecru, pale pink, rose or even gold.

• Bouquets in the Victorian period were small clusters of flowers held together by a silver, ivory, or gold holder. You can incorporate old pieces of lace and ribbon in your bouquets, and your bridesmaids can wear lace and ribbon in their hair.

• Make your Victorian centerpieces full and romantic with roses and lots of baby’s breath. One added touch is to sprinkle rose petals around the table. Chair bows are another nice touch for Victorian weddings. To complete the Victorian look, consider placing a single baby rose bud tied with a thin ribbon at every female guest’s place setting.

• Often Victorian weddings were held in the morning hours and the reception was considered a breakfast party. This was arranged so daylight and good weather could be utilized. Daytime weddings and receptions are characterized by flowers, fine linen and china, lace and silver.

• The menu for a Victorian theme wedding should be simple. Finger foods are ideal. Good choices include cucumber sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, pastries, fresh fruit, biscuits, etc. Couples should consult an experienced caterer for menu ideas. A variety of tea is a must. Lumps of sugar are a nice touch for Victorian weddings. Other beverages to serve include wine, champagne, and lemonade.

• Victorian music would include the works of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Having this play quietly in the background would give a Victorian feel. A change to more modern music for dancing at your reception will modernize the entertainment.

• One of the common modes of traveling during Victorian times is via horse carriages. Arriving or departing via these carriages will be quite fun, not to mention very fitting to your chosen theme. However, elegant-looking vintage cars will also be quite appropriate and should be considered properly.

A Victorian wedding is about class and grace, and calls for romantic gestures of a dainty nature. Incorporating these details in your wedding will make it an unforgettable event.
