2011 Wedding Trends – Wedding Trends for 2011 Part 2
By Georgina Clatworthy
So the New Year is now upon us and if you are getting married this year you maybe looking at what the 2011 wedding trends will be. In part 2 of my series on the trends set to shape weddings this year I look at destination weddings, intimate do’s and using global influences on your gift list.
- Sri Lanka is set to be the top wedding destination this year cementing its place as one of the most exotic islands in the world. Destination weddings have become ever more enticing in the last decade and more and more of you are choosing to exchange your vows on foreign shores.
- If a destination wedding is not your thing, then recreating the intimacy of a wedding on the beach at home is one of this year’s big trends. Typically a destination wedding comes in two parts and many couples are looking to have a small ceremony and dinner during the week with a big party for family and friends at the weekend.
- Second photoshoots are becoming very popular and should be one of the biggest 2011 wedding trends. Having a re-run of your wedding photos after the wedding day gives you a great excuse to don your wedding finery again.
- Give yourselves more time to meet and greet during the wedding day by adopting the trend for having your couple photographs taken before the ceremony. It is a lovely way to greet each other and spend some romantic time together before you take your vows.
- Gift registries are set to be heavily influenced by ethnic design during 2011 with soft furnishings and printed bed linens topping the list. Global influences in your wedding gifts are also a great way of complimenting all those items you bring back from honeymoon.
- The best dressed grooms this year will be leaping from formal wear to tailored suits with bespoke tailoring set to the be one of the biggest wedding trends.
- It seems grooms are taking a bigger role within the wedding planning this year and the unique, bespoke feel continues with the wedding rings. Many grooms are looking to commission rings including engagement rings rather than choosing ready made designs from a jewelers shop.
- The top wedding theme trends for 2011 will be centered around 1950’s prim. Vintage themes no longer have to be made up of floral bunting and second hand china, but instead old school glamour with pearls and candlesticks will be the key decorative features.
